New anthology, new course, new articles, new news

From JackWalkerPress.com and AmyLouJenkins.com

First, let me offer my sincere concern and love for all those suffering from acts of violence, hate, lies, and power grabs all around the world. If all we have to respond are acts of service, words, and good intentions, then let’s use these to contribute to a better world.

Surprisingly (this crept up on me), we are already deep into the last quarter of the year. Yet, we can finish out this year with momentum. Promote your published work, find new opportunities, and be inspired by our LitNews:

Here's our concise newsletter with three sections to bolster your LitLife a few times each month.

Exciting Announcements From JWP

1. Our first course will be offered early to our subscribers and then to the public by Black Friday. Our second course will be a complete memoir course and will support writers to find their stories and write literary memoirs that matter. Our first course will be a sweet and fun class: Write-a-Gift LauchPad. It's not a literary class.

image I've been using my writing for decades to create family books, framed pieces, tributes, and more to create gifts from me and family group collaborations with older and younger generations in our family. These gifts are never forgotten: they forge stronger relationships and become treasured heirlooms. Watch for Write-A-Gift Launchpad.

2. Book promotion opportunities. We are planning a series of articles for the holiday season that center on books to gift. These articles will be in the style of a previously published article:

gifts for birdwatchers

If you’re looking for a gift for a birdwatcher in your life, a book is a smart choice. As birders learn to identify birds, they naturally want to know more about them. Memoirists haven’t let us down, and...Read More

If you'd like your book to appear on a suggested book list in one of our articles, act quickly. Your book must be available through widely used booksellers; it must have at least 5 reviews and and least a 3.5-star rating. How to have your book considered for inclusion in our gift series:

1. Contact AL at Jack Walker Press through the contact page on amyloujenkins.com or jackwalkerpress.com.

2. Use the subject line: Litfriend Gift Book Recommendation

3. Include a 2-line summary of the book and about 2 lines of a review you have a right to reprint-written by a named person who allows reprint of their reviews. (For example: Juan Valdez says he "stayed awake and wide-eyed all night reading it from cover to cover. "-but your quote must be real.)

4. Include a category for your book: Think about what a gift-giver would search for when looking for gift recommendations (Examples: For Dads who have everything. For Young Adults who love an adventure. For History Lovers.) Don't say it's for "everyone."

5. Include a link to the book on a major bookseller and a link to your online writer presence.

6. Include this intent and statement: "I will happily share and link back to the article that promotes my book at least two times on the internet."

3. We are planning a new anthology of personal essays. Help us choose a theme by taking the poll. Do let us know if you have suggestions other than the options available in the poll. Read the article linked below to take the poll or go directly to the poll:

Stem Sentences: Turn a Phrase into a Sentence and Keep Writing.

Stem Sentences are partial sentences or phrases that serve as the starting point for your writing. They provide a structure and a launching pad for your thoughts, allowing your stream of consciousness to flow freely from that initial point. Click here to read more.

3. Writer News

Subscribers can list their news on our FB page, or message us through our Contact Us form.

Karin Schmidt of Wisconsin has preserved the history of her state writers' association with her new book: Wisconsin Writers Association: The First Seventy-Five Years 1948–2023. The remarkable accomplishments of its founders and volunteers are not lost in time. Previously scattered throughout archives, newsletters, and board meeting minutes, readers find a history of community through literary arts.

Mara Kardas-Nelson of San Francisco won the 2022 Richard J. Margolis Award. She received $5,000 and a monthlong residency at the Blue Mountain Center, a writers and artists retreat in Blue Mountain Lake, N Y. The annual award is given to an essayist or journalist whose work “combines warmth, humor, and wisdom, and sheds light on issues of social justice.” The next deadline is July 1, 2024. Learn more about the award.

JWP Courses coming this fall.

Think about what kind of anthology you might buy. JWP is exploring subjects for the next anthology in the Voices series. Let's write an anthology that people would like to buy, give as a gift, and read.
